For his first CHANEL Métiers d’art collection, Matthieu Blazy plays with character and imagination, creating a world where reality and fiction meet.
Presented in New York, the collection turns the subway into a cinematic stage where students, socialites, working women, showgirls and imagined characters cross paths. Blazy draws on the city’s energy and its democratic mix of personalities, presenting fashion as a way to invent an identity and become whoever you want to be.
The collection moves freely between the 1920s and the present, combining Art Deco references with urban tailoring, elevated denim, fluid trousers, floor-length gowns and hand-painted skirts. Chanel codes appear throughout in updated suits, two-tone shoes, pearls and camellias, while animal motifs and playful accessories bring a sense of fantasy to the clothes.
At the heart of the collection is the work of Chanel’s Métiers d’art ateliers. Lesage, Massaro, Goossens, Lemarié, Atelier Montex and Maison Michel contribute intricate embroidery, jewellery, feathers, shoes, hats and other details that transform everyday characters into something extraordinary.
